Q. I don’t play a musical instrument but I am really interested in discovering live music production (Abelton) or creating live & pre recorded visuals, stage/set design – can I be a part of the SummerSchool?
A. YES – We have a strand which allows for participants to learn more about the production of digital music in live performance; the creation of live & pre-recorded visuals for a performance; staging & set design. We are offering these strands on an individual case-by-case basis, please contact us to find out more about how you can enrol in this exciting area of the DeepBlue SummerSchool program!

Q. What is the daily schedule?
A. Classes commence promptly at 8:30am from Monday  – Thursday. Classes conclude at 4pm each day. Friday is slightly different (see below)

Monday – Thursday:
8:30am Yoga for Musicians
9:00am Guests & Industry Gurus
9:40am Session 1 (75mins)
10:55am Morning Tea
11:10am Session 2 (75mins)
12:45pm Lunch (45mins)
1:10pm Session 3 (75mins)
2:25pm Short Break (5-15mins)
2:30pm Group Meeting & Rehearsal
3:30pm SummerSchool concludes Private lessons with DeepBlue members available.

Drop off is by 8.55am. Pick up is from 3:30 – 3:45pm. Please be prompt in collecting your young musicians each day!

Friday:
10:30 – 11:00  Performance Preperation
11:00 – 11:45  Banter & Rehearsal Time
11:45 – 1:45  Tech Rehearsal
13:45 – 14:45  Lunch
14:45pm – 16:15  Dress Rehearsal/Notes in Theatre
16:15 – 17:00  45min call, afternoon Tea and Preparations
16:50 – 10min Call
17:00 – Performance

Q. When and what is the final performance?
A. The SummerSchool will culminate with a performance unlike your regular school concert! The performance will commence at 5:00pm on the Friday at the end of the week at the QACI Theatre

Q. What music will my child be playing? Do they need to prepare anything in advance?
A. No – all sheet music will be distributed on Monday. There is no need to prepare any pieces prior to SummerSchool.

Q. Can my child store their instrument overnight?
A. There will be no overnight storage of violins or violas for the duration of the SummerSchool. Storage will be provided for cellos, double basses and those with more than one instrument.

Q. Does my child need to bring food for the day?
A. Please bring your own lunch and snacks every day. There will be no opportunity to purchase food during the day. The SummerSchool will provide light morning and afternoon tea as a supplement.

Q. What do they need to bring?
– Lunch and water bottle
– Instrument (acoustic and electric if you have one!)
– Spare strings
– Rosin
– Cellists please bring own rockstop
– Pencil case with pencils/eraser/sharpener
– A notebook
– EITHER a black or white shirt/t-shirt for the performance. Colours will be allocated on the first day of the Summer School and you will not need your shirt until Thursday
– Headphones (iPod or other)
– A‘mini jack’ to ‘jack’ adaptor. These can be purchased for about $3 from JB Hi-Fi or other similar stores. If you take that description in to the store there’s no way you can go wrong! Please see attached picture.

For those bringing electric instruments, please bring whatever cables/pedals you have but DO NOT bring your own amp.

Q. How do I register?
A. Online! Head to www.youngblue.net.au to find the eventbrite link to purchase online – you can pay through paypal or credit card. If these options don’t work for you please get in touch so we can make another arrangement

Q. What instruments can be involved in the SummerSchool?
A. All stringed instruments, Keys/Sythns, Drums/Percussion, guitars, electronic musicians, and some woodwind & brass.

Q. I haven’t been learning my instrument for very long, I’m in my first year – can I participate?
A. YES! We require participants to have been learning for a minimum of 6 months. You will be grouped with other musicians of a similar age and experience level.
