YoungBlue Workshops

Hi Andy, The show was a wonderful example of what can be achieved through engaging the community and audience…having a group of talented musicians eager to entertain also doesn’t hurt. Kind regards, Frank Morello, Manager, Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre

I wish they had had this when I was young.   I had the National Music Camps and the Australian Youth Orchestra – all great of course, but this is an added dimension which rounds it all off….cheers, Margaret Conyers

I just wish I was a teenager still, when I was a ‘young’ musician there was nothing as exciting as ‘deepblue’. I saw the MSO in the townhall (playing Britten’s Young Person’s Guide…). I fell in love with the violin, but my impression of musical life was not half as exciting as you present it! Annette Castles – Classroom Music Bairnsdale Campus Gippsland Grammar

Dear Sophie
My name is Imke Bester.(cellist) I was in young blue. Thank you for putting up a fantastic show in Tamworth on the 19/8/11 It was the best day of my life!
I was inspired by what you do. I was nervous when my mum told me that you guys are famous! My heart was racing when I saw Wayne on the stilts! I have been on that stage a couple of times, but that time scared me.hope you guys are going good. from Imke Bester – Tamworth

Holiday School Programs

SummerSchool 2013

“I had such great fun and it made me excited about learning the violin and gave me ideas for new directions with music.”

I liked the Summer School because I got to meet people with the same interests, it was dynamic, and great to learn new ways to move with the instrument.”

“I had lots of fun, loved and learnt lots like putting together a performance and playing around with technology that made your instruments sound cool. I also made new friends that were TOTALLY AWESOME!”

SummerSchool 2012

“We were very impressed with the final performance and the kids looked like they were really enjoying it!”

“Very enthusiastic response and the kids’ positive reactions matched the promotional descriptions of the program and the claims that it would revitalise their interest in their instruments, music and performance. Well done to the DeepBlue Team, QUT and all involved!”

“Staff involved seemed genuinely interested, enthusiastic and seem warm, engaging human beings happy to be educating, inspiring and transforming the kids they are working with. They genuinely love what they do and this enthusiasm and love of music and performing transferred to the kids.  – this is quite a contrast to many of the burnt-out or ‘creativity-deprived’ teachers we have found in other settings. I’m not used to seeing kids begging to be allowed to do something of an educational nature again.”

WinterSchool 2011

Off to a rainy start the SummerSchool was rained out in the floods of 2011 but continued through to a WinterSchool! Heres what our participants had to say…

“So very pleased our daughter can participate in the winter school because she was excited to be a part of the summer school and very disappointed when the floods caused it to be cancelled. Thank you for organising this event.”

“Thanks for organising the Winterschool to make up for the cancellation of Summerschool.  My daughter was loving every minute of it and will look for to June/July holidays to take part in the next one”

DeepBlue at your School

The Gap

“Dear Sophie and all performers and techies of Deep BLue,
Thank you so much for bringing your show your enthusiasm and amazing expertise and freshness to our school. The concert was amazing and everyone really enjoyed the music, the colour and the entertainment. What an incredible medium to share music. Well done and please keep going. You were all a delight to work with and the students are extremely lucky to have had this opportunity to see the enjoyment of music, movement and creativity in its many forms. We do hope you were able to sell a lot of your merchandise” – From The Gap High and POPARTS, Janice Maybury, Annie Rossouw and the POPARTS Committee

Shailer Park

“Just letting you know, Deepblue had a big impact on the school. The principal
was thrilled, staff were amazed and you heard the kids highly excited and
even the invited politicians were excited, busily taking photos with their phones.
Even though I had tried to give people and idea of Deepblue before you came
I don’t think they comprehended. Our Instrumental players while some, especially
the yr 8s were out of their comfort zone, the teachers were really surprised to see
how kids stood up beyond what was expected and some kids usually in the
background shone. A particular thank you for enabling two of our kids to obtain
experience with the backstage/sound setting up. It was an amazing opportunity for them. All in all it was a wonderful experience for the players and shook up the perception amongst staff and students as to what Instrumental music can be about.
It was a wonderful boost for players. THANK YOU!!!!” – Jenni Martin

More YoungBlue Testimonials:

Hi Sophie, I am emailing to say what a wonderful experience the Killester String Ensemble girls had at your workshop and concert on Friday 9th September in Dandenong. The girls were very privileged to be able to take part in such a program as they don’t normally get access to such events. It was exactly the type of experience they needed to get them excited about their string playing and to see that it can be fun! Your show was truly electric – we all left on a high and the girls were still buzzing with enthusiasm the following Monday at school. Thankyou for accommodating our group and for providing such a worthwhile and enjoyable experience. The Drum Theatre was a perfect venue and we all hope you visit Melbourne again soon. Congratulations on a fabulous concert! Sincerely, Debbie Haskell, Killester College – Springvale

Hi Sophie! Just wanted to say that “wow”, you guys (and gals) really rocked it up last night in sale.  I drove an hour and a half with my 14 year old son and his mate to watch the show and got every little kilometres worth out of it!  What an experience and a true credit to all involved!  If it wasn’t another school night tonight I’d go again in Warragul!  Hope you come back soon (and maybe get a Friday night or weekend matinee gig).  I’m sure you’ll sell out! Anyway, thanks again.  All 3 of us enjoyed it equally and will definitely be going again when you come this way again. Cheers, Lisa.

Hi Emma, Congratulations on such a fantastic show tonight. You are all so very talented. Thank you also for the workshop you did today. Courtney had a fantastic time and thanks you all for all you taught her .  She would love to know of other things you might be doing in the area if you are back this way. Thanks again. Kind regards, Suellen hart :)  Dubbo – August 20th 2011

Dear Emma, Thank you so much for a wonderful concert by all the deepblue orchestra last Thursday night in Port Macquarie. My daughter Olivia said “that was the best” workshop and concert she had been involved in. Good luck with the rest of your tour. Thanks again, Lina Jackson Port Macquarie – August 18th 2011

Hi Emma, What a fabulous night. Corazon & Alex were on such high, Corazon felt pretty special being the only cellist (cellists are special after all!). The show was amazing, we are considering some follow up workshops ourselves, Mandy & I saw that western kids sure need to loosen up more. We have a Kempsey Silver Strings &  orchestra concert to organise first. We will keep in contact for some ideas. Will there be a Young Blue work shop in Brisbane on the Christmas holidays? Riitta Kytola – Port Macquarie – August 18th 2011

Hi Emma, I just want to say thank you to you and the rest of the winterschool leaders for running such a wonderful programme last week. Kaiti came home very tired and very happy, she had a fantastic time, had wonderful musical experiences and made lots of new friends. I hope the financial support that deepblue so deserves is just around the corner, so that you can continue to entertain and inspire others through your music.
Thank you again, Tracey Peters – Brisbane – Winterschool July 2011

Hi everyone, Just wanted to say what a great show it was this afternoon, very enjoyable and it was obvious the children loved the result of their work. Thank you for taking great care of them this week, I hope you have a nice break next week to get over it. Keep up the wonderful work you do inspiring young musicians, see you next time. Kind regards, Tina Bowen (Kaitlyn’s mum) Brisbane – Winterschool July 2011

Dear Sophie, On behalf of Harry, I just wanted to send you and Emma a huge thank you for giving youngblue the opportunity to perform last Monday night. Harry really enjoyed the gig, especially the opportunity to be part of a deepblue performance at a large event.   I also really enjoyed watching the rehearsal and the sound check as I learnt so much about how deepblue do what they do so brilliantly.  Please send my thanks to  Emma as well as I don’t have her email. Thank you! Maree Pearce

Hi Sophie, I just wanted to let you know what a fantastic time my daughter, Alli, had on Sunday meeting and performing with Deep Blue. It was great experience for her and her friends and they thoroughly enjoyed it. They all have a renewed interest in their instruments and have signed up for the Summer School program. Youngblue is a great idea and hopefully they can do it all again one day. Kind regards, Karen Hayes

Dear Sophie, First of all a huge thank you for yesterday with youngblue and congratulations for an outstanding show !!! This was our fifth to watch… You are all amazing…  I just can’t wait for the new show! Best wishes Carolyn Kumar

Hi Sophie, I just wanted to let you know that we thoroughly enjoyed the performance yesterday. It was very inspirational. Gabrielle really enjoyed the workshop and got a lot out of being part of the performance. She definitely is interested in doing it again some time. Kind regards, Melinda Egan
